Description

When one language dominates scholarly communication, it creates inequities. The movement for creating a more multilingual scholarly communication ecosystem is gaining traction. However, multilingualism also brings challenges: if we all publish and present in our own language, how can we discover and engage with each other’s work? There is no single “quick fix” solution, but even small steps can begin to move us in the right direction. In this talk, we will first consider some of the challenges that need to be overcome to increase multilingual scholarly communication and then discuss some partial and potential solutions that may help us to achieve this goal, including plain language, translation technologies, and more.
