TITRE: The Chemistry of Undirected C(sp3)-H Functionalizations and Alkynyl Triazenes

RÉSUMÉ:

In synthetic chemistry, undirected functionalizations of unactivated C(sp3)H bonds lacking a nearby directing group are of great industrial interest for the conversion of naturally abundant hydrocarbons into value-added chemical feedstocks. Although such reactions would be valuable, undirected functionalizations of alkyl C(sp3)H bonds are rare because of the high bond dissociation energies (BDEs) of these bonds and lack of regioselectivity. In this seminar, exciting findings on rare undirected methylation of unactivated C(sp3)H bonds will be presented, which enables late-stage and site-specific introduction of methyl groups in structurally complex bioactive molecules and natural products.

We will also present a study on the chemical reactivity and organometallic chemistry of 1-alkynyl triazenes, a unique and versatile building block. These results brought to light efficient strategies to prepare and diversify pharmaceutically valuable heterocycles and uncovered several mechanistically intriguing chemical rearrangement processes.
