The Sun's magnetic field makes the Sun a dynamic and fascinating star to be
around. It gives structure to the solar atmosphere and lies at the core
of the violent releases of energy responsible for space weather. In this
interactive talk we will introduce the Sun's magnetic field and the
mechanisms that lead to the build up and release of magnetic energy. Then
we will discuss the different ways in which this energy is released and how
it affects the solar system and Earth as the home of a technological
society. We will finalize with a quick look at the solar cycle, how it
works, and how it changes the conditions in our solar system during the
course of a decade.
La conférence est pour tout public et le café est servi dès 11h30.
